Career Beginnings and Irakere
Chucho's first recorded sessions as a bandleader took place in January 1964 at the Areíto Studios of Havana, under the EGREM label. These sessions included prominent musicians such as Paquito D'Rivera on alto saxophone and clarinet, and Óscar Valdés Jr. on congas. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Chucho's jazz combo incorporated various talented musicians, marking the beginning of his influential career.
In 1967, Chucho was a founding member of the Orquesta Cubana de Música Moderna, a significant ensemble that brought together many Cuban musicians.
