Carmel, Indiana is a suburban city located in Hamilton County, United States, immediately north of Indianapolis. The city has experienced significant growth and development over the years, boasting a population of approximately 99,757 residents. History

Originally, Carmel was called "Bethlehem." It was platted and recorded in 1837 by founders Daniel Warren, Alexander Mills, John Phelps, and Seth Green. The town was strategically situated along the Indianapolis-Peru Road, now known as Westfield Boulevard. During the 1950s and 1960s, Carmel anticipated a demographic boom, prompting the construction of large public schools and the establishment of the Carmel Clay School District in 1964. This period also saw the creation of significant religious institutions, with six churches built during the 1950s.

With further urban expansion, the area was referred to as a "bedroom community" in a 1958 article by the Indianapolis Star, suggesting it would support the growth of Indianapolis. By 1976, Carmel was incorporated as a city. The same year, the Carmel Symphony Orchestra was initiated by Latvian immigrant Viktors Ziedonis, marking Carmel as a vibrant community for cultural activities. By the end of the 20th century, Carmel had become one of Indiana's fastest-growing cities.
