Batik Air Malaysia
Batik Air Malaysia, formerly known as Malindo Air, is a Malaysian full-service airline. It operates as a subsidiary of the Lion Air Group, which is based in Indonesia. The airline is headquartered in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, a state in Malaysia.
History
Batik Air Malaysia was originally established as Malindo Air in 2013. The name "Malindo" was a portmanteau of Malaysia and Indonesia, reflecting the cooperation between the two countries. In April 2022, the airline underwent rebranding as Batik Air Malaysia to align more closely with its sister airline, Batik Air of Indonesia, under the umbrella of the Lion Air Group.
Operations
Batik Air Malaysia operates from its primary hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which is one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia. The airline also maintains a secondary hub at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, Selangor. These hubs allow Batik Air Malaysia to offer an extensive network of domestic and international flights.
Fleet and Services
As a full-service airline, Batik Air Malaysia provides a range of amenities to its passengers, including in-flight entertainment, meals, and a more generous baggage allowance compared to low-cost carriers. The airline's fleet includes modern Boeing and ATR aircraft, designed to offer comfort and efficiency.
Lion Air Group
The Lion Air Group owns several airlines, including Lion Air, Batik Air Indonesia, and Thai Lion Air. The group is a prominent player in the Asian aviation market, primarily competing with low-cost carriers like AirAsia. By incorporating Batik Air Malaysia, the Lion Air Group strategically expanded its full-service offerings in the region.
Network and Destinations
Batik Air Malaysia serves numerous destinations across Asia, including major cities in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and beyond. The airline frequently updates its network to include new routes and expand its reach.
